Experience a revolutionary advancement in vision correction at the Eye Center of New York with extended depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lenses (IOLs).
What are Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) Intraocular Lenses (IOL)?
EDOF IOLs are IOLs that provide an extended range of glasses-free vision, compared to a monfocal IOL. These groundbreaking IOLs are designed to address not only cataracts but also presbyopia, a common age-related condition affecting near vision. Presbyopia leads to a gradual loss of the eye’s ability to focus on close objects, requiring the use of reading glasses. EDOF IOLs provide an extended range of clear vision, reducing dependence on glasses for various distances.
There are three zones of vision we’d like to have clear vision postoperatively: Distance, Intermediate, and Near. Monofocal IOLs only treat one of the three, while EDOF’s provide clear vision in two of the three zones - typically distance and intermediate. While glasses are still needed for fine print, it is usually a low prescription such as a +1.25 reader available over the counter.
