Dr. Tal Raviv, MD, FACS
Founder and Medical Director
Dr. Tal Raviv is a fellowship-trained cataract and refractive surgeon with over two decades of experience. He is an internationally recognized leader in the field of refractive cataract surgery. In his private NYC ophthalmology practice, Dr. Raviv focuses exclusively on laser refractive cataract surgery and LASIK. Dr. Raviv’s laser cataract surgery requires no injections, no patches, and no physical restrictions after surgery. Dr. Raviv also specializes in high-risk and complex cataract surgery, and commonly accepts referrals from other ophthalmologists. Dr. Raviv is a pioneer in the use of microstents such as iStent and Hydrus at the time of cataract surgery for patients with co-existing glaucoma, a surgical category dubbed minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS).
Dr. Raviv was one of the first NYC surgeons to perform femtosecond laser cataract surgery as well as ORA laser-guided intraoperative refraction for the most precise cataract outcomes available anywhere. He has extensive LASIK experience utilizing all-laser LASIK and the latest custom Wavefront technologies.
Dr. Raviv has been honored as a Superdoctor (2009 – present), Castle Connolly Regional Top Doctors (2017 – present), and named into the OSN Premier 300 top ophthalmic surgeons in the country (most recently assessed in 2016). Dr. Raviv serves on the editorial and advisory boards of several national ophthalmic publications and is an internationally recognized lecturer and thought leader in the field of refractive cataract surgery, MIGS, and dry eyes.

Dr. Paul Lee, MD
Dr. Paul S. Lee is a well-respected clinician, teacher and leader in ophthalmology. He is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine of Mount Sinai and the Associate Program Director of New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and Mount Sinai’s ophthalmology residency program. He is also currently serving as the President of the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and Mount Sinai Ophthalmology Alumni Association, one of the largest ophthalmology networks in the country.
Dr. Lee received his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago, where he studied English Language and Literature and graduated with honors. He continued on to the University of Chicago’s Pritzker School of Medicine, where he received his medical degree.
Dr. Lee completed his ophthalmology residency and glaucoma fellowship at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. After fellowship, Dr. Lee joined Mt. Sinai’s Department of Ophthalmology to direct glaucoma services at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center. After a few years as director of glaucoma, Dr. Lee was promoted to Chief of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Lee has co-authored multiple chapters in major ophthalmology reference textbooks and has an active role in resident education, especially in the surgical education of ophthalmology residents, teaching them the latest techniques in modern cataract and glaucoma surgery. Dr. Lee is the recipient of the Abraham L. Kornzweig Award for Excellence in Resident Education awarded by the graduating class of ophthalmology residents at Mount Sinai.
Outside of work, Dr. Lee is busy with his three children and has completed several Olympic distance triathlons. His hopes to complete a full Ironman in a few years. His wife is a Political Affairs Officer at the United Nations and their home is in Larchmont, NY.
Dr. Melissa Sherman, OD
Dr. Melissa Sherman is a licensed optometrist providing full-scope eye care at Eye Center of New York.
After being elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduating magna cum laude from Rutgers University, she went on to obtain her doctorate at the SUNY State College of Optometry. Dr. Sherman completed rotations in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease at Woodhull Hospital and St. Albans VA Hospital and has extensive experience prescribing glasses and contact lenses.
Dr. Sherman specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of dry eye disease. The Eye Center of New York offers the absolute latest in dry eye diagnostics and treatments including Meibography, Lipiview lipid layer thickness, MMP-9 Inflammadry diagnostics, Tear Osmolarity, Lipiflow MGD treatment, Blephex, Intense Pulse Light (IPL), punctal plugs, Regenereyes and autologous serum eye drops (ASED).
She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the New Jersey Society of Optometric Physicians. Dr. Sherman is a compassionate practitioner whose focus is on providing high-quality, individualized patient care. When not treating patients, Dr. Sherman enjoys yoga, travel, and spending time with her husband and two young children.
Dr. Shira Nissel, OD
Dr. Shira Nissel is a licensed optometrist practicing comprehensive eye care on a consulting basis for Eye Center of New York. She received her Bachelors degree in Psychology from Queens College City University of New York where she graduated summa cum laude and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She went on to receive her Doctor of Optometry from the State University of New York College of Optometry and was the recipient of the Schnurmacher Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Dr. Nissel is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), and the New York State Optometric Association (NYSOA).
Her experience includes practicing full scope optometry with a specialized emphasis on contact lens fittings, including specialty fits and multifocal/bifocal contact lenses as well as astigmatism lenses. She also performs pre- and post-operative care for refractive and cataract surgery . Dr. Nissel performed vision screenings for New York City area schools as a part of her training at SUNY and volunteered providing eye care to the athletes at the Special Olympics.
